New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is following the lead of many top athletes by switching to a plant based diet. Venus Williams, Colin Kaepernick, and Kyrie Irving, just to name a few have swapped meat for plants for fuel.
During this off season, Kamara decided to adjust his diet by replacing sodium and sugars for plants. Weighing in at 211 pounds, Kamara is still within his 212-215 pound range during a typical off season.
“I got with my chef and just put together a plan and stuck to it and am still sticking to it. I think that changed my body a little bit, I look a little bit different but all in all still good, still positive.” said Kamara.
Kamara joins fellow Saints player Jameis Winston, who’s adjusted his diet by cutting back on his meat intake tremendously–following a somewhat modified vegan diet. “It’s just changed my body drastically,” Winston said in a news conference with the team.
Other high profile NFL players who follow a plant based diet include: Tom Brady, Cam Newton, and Tyrann Mathieu.
