Budweiser reveals Bud Zero—the company’s first ever alcohol-free beer. The launch provides an alternative option for consumers by steering away from the stigma of alcohol.
Budweiser’s VP of Marketing Monica Rustgi tells CNN, “We believe there doesn’t need to be a stigma and outdated understanding of non-alcoholic beer. Beer is something that people love, so it doesn’t have to be a binary decision of drinking beer with alcohol or not drinking beer at all.”
Ex-NBA legend Dwayne Wade teamed up with Budweiser owner Anheuser-Busch InBev to design the packaging and taste of Bud Zero. Wade describes how he appreciated being a part of the launch as a non-alcohol drinker and often the designated driver for family and friends. “I loved the idea of being part of the conversation without having to drink alcohol. You don’t always want to walk away being hungover or with a buzz,” says Wade.
Although Wade steers clear of alcohol, the ex-athlete doesn’t play about his wine. In 2018 the entrepreneur partnered with the famous Pahlmeyer family and created Wade Cellars —a Napa Valley winery brand.
Bud Zero will launch soon in 12-packs of 12-ounce cans including single 16-ounce cans. Each beer contains only 50 calories with no sugar at all. Consumers can expect a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles later this fall.
