As independent restaurants across the country struggle to stay open, help is coming in an unlikely way… a super bowl commercial. Hip-hop icon Cardi B alongside Hollywood actors Mike Myers and Dana Carvey star in a one-minute advertisement for Uber Eats.
The advertisement centers around the classic 1992 comedy Wayne’s World, with Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey reprising their roles as Wayne and Garth. Encouraging viewers to their locally broadcast show to “eat local” the commercial goes beyond celebrity cameos. Meyers and Barth mock TikTok dance trends as well as include typical marketing cliches throughout the ad.
The campaign all ties back to the financial hardships small businesses face amidst COVID-19. With the super bowl on Sunday approaching, many fans will watch from home having never gotten to attend an in-person game this year.
