Three weeks ago Converse signed its first women’s basketball player, Natasha Cloud mainly for her social justice activism. Fast forward to today, the shoe company is staying true to that decision by agreeing to cover 100% of Clouds 2020 WNBA salary.
Cloud opted out of the season scheduled to resume in Florida in July, to remain on the front lines of social reform.
“I got some good people and company’s behind me,” said Cloud responding to comments on Twitter.
Converse has also donated $25,000 to a racial justice organization in Cloud’s hometown of Philadelphia. The company is creating a film focused on Cloud’s efforts on advocating for change.
Cloud is one of few WNBA players who opted out of the season return. Players who opt out of the season will not receive their full pay for the year.
