Damian Lillard Reveals “Visionary Academy” Internship & Adidas Collaboration

Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard has revealed the launch of a new internship opportunity for student-athletes named The Visionary Academy. It’s a four-month internship program for high school student-athletes based in 27 high schools in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, which is represented by 98% of students of color.

Recognizing how the opportunity to grow in a setting where all of the students will be able to excel creatively and as athletes is an incredible one-of-a-kind experience that Lillard has been able to personally fund and help launch. The Visionary Academy also acts as an extension of Adidas’ Legacy program assisting student-athletes all over the country. Its internships in 2021 will primarily focus on helping these students gain experience in sports media and digital marketing.

The Oakland basketball player will serve as a “visionary coach,” checking in with each student virtually to offer advice and feedback while they also receive personalized mentorship from Adidas Basketball employees assigned to each student.

“I’m just at that point in my life and in my career where I realize the value of how I see things, how I operate, and try to bring things to life,” Lillard said. “When you get to that point, you want to create something for other people to follow. You also want to inspire them and encourage them to grow.”

Along with news of the internship program, Lillard announced the newest sneaker launch of the ultralight and responsive Adidas Dame 7 shoe available with a Visionary-themed colorway including vibrant bright red and blue hues illustrating his powerful mindset of keeping a “visionary” outlook on life and everything you do.
