Interview: WNBA Player Cheyenne Parker Releases Never-Before-Seen Exclusive 2021 Calendar

by | Dec 18, 2020 | Collectibles

“I persist until I succeed. No matter the difficulty…

….. I choose to always push forward. I set goals and am relentless in pursuit of them. My life has not been the easiest but I will never use that as an excuse, I believe that hard times breed success and everybody is not out for it, but…I’m a different breed.”

Cheyenne Parker

Cheyenne Parker integrates her passion for life into everything she does. As much as basketball has influenced her entire life, she knows the love for the game isn’t the only thing of importance when it comes to living a life full of aspirations. Having confidence in yourself, believing in your abilities, and sharing that joy with other women across the country is one of the best feelings in the world. This powerful energy flows through her exclusive holiday calendar serving as a portrayal of female empowerment on and off the court, as well as displaying overall confidence in a behind the scenes preview of someone fully embodying the sexiness of being a woman.

The Chicago Sky forward/center and CEO of Born Queen Boutique reflects on the year of newfound possibilities for many creative athletes searching for ways to continue connecting with their fans. Although it was a time of uncertainty, Parker feels grateful for the opportunity to unwind with her loved ones while focusing on projects close to her heart. Born Queen Boutique, which offers snapbacks, hoodies, t-shirts, and more products sharing her inspirational sayings “relentless,” “I Can & I Will WATCH,” and “different breed” now holds the official exclusive 2021 calendar with never-before-seen photos meant only for the eye of the beholder.

“The idea of the calendar came up [during my second professional year] when I was trying to brand myself,” Parker says during our phone interview. “That idea came up and I just never did anything. This year I finally just said, “you know what, I’m doing it.” And I did it.”

“This is showing I can be a sexy, seductive woman and it’s okay. It’s not a problem just because I’m an athlete… I wanted it to be a work of art.. something that reflected my artistic side, my creative writing side, as well as my model skills because the modeling part is the easy part for real… I felt a little weird at first but I had to loosen up and realize like, “it’s okay, you’re beautiful.’”

Stop by the League Ready Chicago store in Chicago, IL this Saturday, December 19th to pick up your own copy and celebrate the release with Parker, who will be signing purchased calendars and taking pictures with fans from 5 pm to 8 pm. There will also be food and drinks available!

“I’m really into interacting with my fans and people who rock with me. To me, it’s all love.”

After being impacted by the devastating realities of Covid-19, being at home became a time of reflection many athletes have never truly found themselves in. Parker found herself having more time for her family and friends, business, spirituality, and personal projects. Singing for herself and her loved ones also took away any stress from the day, as well as jamming out to Meg The Stallion, H.E.R., Teyana Taylor, Jhene Aiko, and Lil Baby all year round. Listening to anything from Meg The Stallion will place her in the best mood possible and ready for anything that comes her way, just ask her.

Giving back to the community is always a rewarding feeling, whether being in the WNBA or not. Although Parker couldn’t go on her CP Tour this year due to Covid-19 to speak with middle schoolers and high schoolers about her basketball career, Parker plans on returning to schools all over the country in 2021. It’s been her favorite way of connecting with student-athletes while offering words of encouragement, speaking about her life, answering questions, and offering tips on how to build a successful basketball career.

Being the founder of Born Queen Boutique has shown her the realities of pursuing financial freedom, crediting the influence of the popular finance book Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Richard Kiyosaki, which further discusses the implications of not having more than one source of income. It’s inspired her to push harder while she still can. Born Queen Boutique will eventually integrate Born Queen Natural Health into the business where she will offer natural ways of detoxifying the body.

“I’m super thankful for quarantine and for the opportunity to just be human without anything. I had to really reevaluate, you know because basketball is my life. So once that stopped, it was like, wow, like, who am I for real? So it just was a really great opportunity for me to self reflect, having all the time in the world.”

Looking deeper into her come-up story, some people would say she was never supposed to make it to the Women’s National Basketball Association. Getting kicked out of her basketball team during her senior year of college due to the failed drug test should’ve been it. It was clearly a risk for the Chicago Sky to take on this hustler ready to fight her way into the WNBA. Yet, here we are a few years later after that risk paid off and she’s living the life of her dreams along with a supportive team by her side.

She’s been featured on BET’s SMOKE The Rise Of Cannabis & Its Integration In Hip Hop Culture discussing the fated event that changed the course of her professional basketball career. The most devastating part of the ordeal was letting down her team members who all shared the same hunger to succeed but Parker still continues to speak about the possibility of removing cannabis from the list of drug violations or finding a way for it to be used for medicinal purposes since it is an important cause in her life.

“I told the media the truth at the time because to me it’s like, “if that’s the worst thing you were doing, I think you’re alright.” It helped me with my focus. I struggled with my own issues. I had ADHD and it helped me get papers done. It helped me with my depression. It helped me in so many ways from a medical standpoint… I was willing to risk failing the test because I felt like I needed it… I’ve always been honest about it because, to me, I’m not ashamed of that.”

“I actually did the documentary in the Chicago Sky office. At first, they were like, “are you sure you want to try this?” I was like, yes. I’m thankful that they’re supportive because they asked me “is this something you’re really passionate about?” I’m like, yes.”

Remember to check out the Born Queen Boutique! Cheyenne Parker gives fans the chance to see a sexier side of herself throughout the 12-month calendar currently available for purchase, while also carrying herself like the queen she is who’s fully in her power. She knows what she wants in life and is going for it. Her biggest message for supporters all over the world: there will never be the perfect time for anything so take action on any dream you have right now.
