Lebron James and business partner/best friend Maverick Carter’s dreams of building a media empire have come to fruition. The two landed a $100 million dollar investment to create the SpringHill Co: a maker and distributor of all kinds of content that will give a voice to creators and consumers who’ve been pandered to, ignored, or underserved.
The SpringHill Co. will consist of three media sources: The first, SpringHill Entertainment, a production company behind the unreleased movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, and The Wall a game show on NBC. The second, Uninterrupted LLC a hybrid production-marketing business that produces the HBO series The Shop: Uninterrupted featuring James, Carter and other Black celebrities. Lastly, The Robot Co., an integrated marketing agency that leverages relationships within the sports, art, digital, music and entertainment industries.
Together, Carter and James have a vision for the future of media and culture. Carter describes SpringHill as a “house of brands”. He says, “It’s part Disney storytelling power, part Nike coolness, and part Patagonia social impact.”
James and Carter committed to creating positions within SpringHill that represent the communities they came from. CEO Devin Johnson describes how diverse SpringHill is: “I’ve never had to convene a task force. Our employees are 64% people of color and 40% women. Other companies scramble to be more reflective of society.”
Carter says, “We’ve always been about empowering people who feel like us and come from the communities we come from and want to believe in our mission.”
