The highly anticipated Warner Bros. film Space Jam 2: A New Legacy will bring Lebron James and the classic Looney Tunes characters to the big screen this summer, with one major exception. Beloved character Pepe Le Pew will not be featured in the upcoming movie as the franchise appears to distance itself from the cartoon skunk known to aggressively hit on his animated costars.
According to Deadline, a scene for the movie between Pepe and actress Greice Santo had been filmed back in June of 2019.
In the scene Pepe is a bartender and Santo’s character is a customer. The skeevy skunk begins to make the moves on Santo, followed by the unprovoked kissing of her arm. At that point, Santo draws away from Pepe, pouring her drink on him before sending the skunk spinning in his barstool with a powerful slap. Lebron James steps into frame and stops the spinning stool, telling the skunk he can’t touch other Tunes without their consent.
A spokesperson for the actress told Deadline that Santo, who runs a non-profit for victims of domestic violence, was disappointed to learn the scene was cut.
“Now the scene is cut, and she doesn’t have that power to influence the world through younger generations who’ll be watching Space Jam 2, to let younger girls and younger boys know that Pepe’s behavior is unacceptable.” they told the publication.
Only time can tell if Pepe Le Pew will one again find a way onto the big screen, but for now it doesn’t appear that time will be anytime soon. with no official reasoning given by Warner Bros. as of yet, it appears the iconic character’s days may be numbered.
