MGK Earns #1 on Billboard 200 Chart With The Meticulous Switch From Hip-Hop To Pop-Punk

Machine Gun Kelly has completely taken everyone by surprise with the release of Tickets To My Downfall, which has debuted as #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. According to Billboard, the artist’s new album earned 126,000 equivalent album units.

The sudden shift from Hip-Hop to Pop-Punk stumbled listeners who weren’t sure if they actually enjoyed the artist’s newfound appreciation for the genre, yet it has caught tons of attraction since its release last Friday.

Whether it’s the ranging features from Halsey, Blackbear, and Trippie Redd or deeply emotive sounds proving Pop-Punk isn’t really dead, MGK challenges what the world expects from him and creates music that confidently takes a risk with its self-aware title. The album is filled with teenage angst coming from the 30-year-old as he dives deep into the struggle of feeling like you don’t belong anywhere and being trapped in a world you can’t control.

From the carefree track “drunk face” where he honestly sings about being free with lyrics like “I’m still young, wastin’ my youth” to the sentimental “play this when I’m gone” written for his daughter, MGK displays a wide range of impressive musical experimentations driven by the freedom he has to perform in the way he knows best. “forget me too” taps in Halsey for a single focused on the heavy guitar parts and hard rock drums to discuss the agony of letting someone you love go.

Alongside his supportive entourage of friends including Modsun and Travis Barker, his girlfriend Megan Fox celebrated his newest milestone with him in front of a Tickets To My Downfall billboard at the iconic Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood.

If you happen to be one of the few people in the world who hasn’t listened to Tickets To My Downfall yet, what are you waiting for?! Go stream the album on all streaming platforms today!
