In addition to “Black Lives Matter” painted on the basketball courts in Orlando, the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have decided to allow players to display a social justice message on the back of their team jersey.
The two associations came to an agreement last Friday—just four weeks out from the leagues resume on July 30th.
Players who select one of the following phrases will have it displayed on the back of their jersey right above their number for the first four days of play.
The phrases include:
“Black Lives Matter,” “Say Their Names,” “Vote,” “I Can’t Breathe,” “Justice,” “Peace,” “Equality,” “Freedom,” “Enough,” “Power to the People,” “Justice Now,” “Say Her Name,” “Sí Se Puede (Yes We Can),” “Liberation,” “See Us,” “Hear Us,” “Respect Us,” “Love Us,” “Listen,” “Listen to Us,” “Stand Up,” “Ally,” “Anti-Racist,” “I Am A Man,” “Speak Up,” “How Many More,” “Group Economics,” “Education Reform,” and “Mentor.”
