Sports cards have seen a steady rise in popularity over the past year. With many needing a new hobby amidst extra time at home, sports fans have flocked to purchasing football, baseball and basketball cards in droves. Along with this surge in popularity has come a surge in prices, as well as many broken records.
Another record was broken this week. With the Kansas City Chiefs set to play in Sunday’s super bowl, their star quarterback’s rookie card just sold for an all-time high. The 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes autograph patch rookie card sold for $861,000, making it the most expensive football card ever sold.
Graded a 9 by Beckett Grading Services, the card is one of only five in existence. Mahomes has become one of football’s biggest stars in the past few years – and this record sale only further cements his legendary status.
With the big game around the corner, expect some stellar commercials in the next few days. Already commercials by Amazon and UberEats are making headlines. Be sure to read our stories on those.
