One of sports apparel’s biggest brands is taking activism to a new level, collaborating with Baltimore photographer and social justice advocate Devin Allen. A long time photographer of sports, Devin’s collaboration with the company is expected to feature an array of Under Armour Apparel. Additionally, of the collaboration’s proceeds will be going towards funding nonprofit Wide Angle Youth Media, helping to empower Baltimore youth interested in digital arts. Another non-profit benefiting from a portion of the collaboration’s sales will be Noisy Tenants, a Baltimore community-centric production agency. They plan to create a mural with the funding near Oriole Park.
The collection comes at a time for Under Armour as the company faces layoffs and financial hardships. With the new line influences by Devin Allen, the company is hopeful to once again gain traction within the fashion community, all while making a difference.
The collaboration between the Baltimore-based apparel brand and Allen will serve as Under Armour’s commemoration of Black History Month. It isn’t the first time the company has done something in celebration of the month. Last year, Under Armour became an apparel sponsor for Morgan State University, a historically black college.
For Allen, the pride of representing the city of Baltimore and having his own signature shoe is a dream come true. “Coming from West Baltimore, now working with one of the largest brands in the world, that’s a big thing to me.” he told The Baltimore Sun.
UNDR ARMR x DVNLLN shoe will join their already impressive collection. Just last month, the company announced the formation of Steph Curry’s “Curry Brand”. Read our story on that here.
