Chicago based rapper Dayvon Bennett, aka King Von, died this morning in a shootout during an argument between two groups of men that escalated to gunfire. He was among three people who were killed in a shooting involving the police outside of Monaco Hookah Lounge early this Friday morning in Atlanta.
The shooting took place around 3a.m. outside of the lounge on Trinity Avenue near Forsyth Street Two. Two off-duty officers and an off-duty officer reported to the scene where the confrontation with the shooters turned deadly.
The three individuals died due to the gunshot wounds while three others were taken to the nearby hospitals for extra care. Their identities haven’t been released yet. Police mentioned in a statement that King Von arrived at a hospital shortly after the shooting via a private vehicle.
APD officials say their investigators believe he “was shot during the initial shootout between the two groups of males, prior to police responding and attempting to stop the shooting.”
“He was a devoted father, a deeply loyal friend, and a man who took care of his people before himself,” Publicist Erin Ryan said. “We are heartbroken for his family, his friends, his team, and his fans. Long live King Von.”
Several people in the hip-hop community took to Twitter to express their condolences, including fellow Chicago rapper Chance the Rapper:

King Von literally just released his third album Welcome to O-Block with features from Moneybagg Yo, Polo G and Lil Durk. He had immersed himself into the Chicago’s drill scene, alongside Chief Keef and Lil Durk, who signed King Von to his record label, Only the Family Entertainment.
