The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream has come under new ownership following United States Senator Kelly Loeffler’s decision to put the team for sale. Last owned by a politician, the team is now being purchased by a player, former WNBA star Renee Montgomery.
News of Montgomery and her investment partners purchasing the team dropped on Friday. While the financial details have yet to come to light, it has been confirmed the NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale.
Renee Montgomery just retired from the WNBA after this past season. She’d spent her last two seasons with the Atlanta Dream, the team she now owns. As a two time WNBA champion, Montgomery knows what it takes to have a winning mentality. It’s safe to assume the former WNBA All-Star will bring that same winning mentality to the Dream’s front office.
