Washington Wizards power forward Rui Hachimura has teamed up with designer Greg Rosborough for a unique kimono honoring his Japanese-African heritage. Set to release in late April, the kimono will be the first released through Hachimura’s brand Black Samurai.
The kimono captures a fantastic design with soothing cherry blossom trees and an eye-catching reflection pool stitched across the piece. Along the pool’s water are D.C. landmarks such as the Martin Luther King Memorial, Capitol Hill, and the Lincoln Memorial. The landmarks are reflected against the bright rippling water. Calming purples and blues encapsulate the stylish design.
“I feel like I am able to share to the world how beautiful my Japanese heritage is and also introduce the unique connection between Washington, D.C. — where I play — and Japan,” Hachimura told HYPEBEAST about the piece.
The kimono is available now for preorder on Rui Hachimura’s website. While limited to 500 pieces for this release, Hachimura says more kimono designs are coming in the near future.
