The Nike Air Griffey Max 1’s original look is being marked with a rebrand for the sneaker’s 25th anniversary in 2021.
Inspired by “The Kid” Ken Griffey Jr. in 1996, the 2021 pair will feature a Nike-branded strap wrapped across the ankle with a wavy black design on the white leather base. An eye-catching “24” appears at the top of the strap fastening the ankle. The White/Black/Freshwater/Varsity Red pairs back to Griffey’s Seattle Mariners threads with the signature “Freshwater” aqua color accented with a touch of red.
Griffey Jr. received the impressionable sneakers to memorialize the iconic player’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. As a former professional baseball outfielder who spent most of his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and the Chicago White Sox, Ken Griffey Jr became inducted into the Mariners’ Hall of Fame and the Reds Hall of Fame before entering the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.
His legacy as one of the most prolific home run hitters in baseball history is gaining recognition once again through this stylish footwear.

The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Retro is one of the most anticipated releases, especially since the sneaker has immediately sold out each time it has been reissued since its official 1996 debut.
We don’t have a specific date available as of right now but stay tuned for the “Freshwater” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 to release sometime early next year on Nike.com!
