The Weeknd is moving to the beat of his own drum with the beaten, grunge new look he displayed while accepting the Favorite Album Award in the Soul/ R&B category with his After Hours album at The American Music Awards this past Sunday, November 22nd.
The Toronto native has been turning heads since his appearance, many fans speculating his face in bandages is an ode to the look he’s embodied for the After Hours album and the short films made for “Blinding Lights” and “After Hours.” He could also possibly be hinting at the release of the new music video he’s been developing.
“Last time I received this award, it was given to me by the late great Prince,” The Weeknd said in honor of Prince. “And you know, he’s the reason I get to constantly challenge the genre of R&B, and I’d like to dedicate this award to him. Thank you.”
Now that the nominations for the 2021 Grammys are out to the public, The Weeknd was actually left out of the nominations even though he obtained the #1 spot on the charts with “Blinding Lights” and his album After Hours. Regardless of the missed opportunities here, he’ll be performing live at the Super Bowl halftime show a week later.
Fans aren’t happy with the results of the Grammy nominations and the lack of acknowledgement for The Weeknd’s top-charting music of 2020. Check out their responses:
The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…

Artists need to take a stand & get @TheWeeknd’s back. Abel getting snubbed this year for @RecordingAcad #Grammys noms is a joke. One of the biggest years an artist has ever had; made a ton of history. Longest running top 5 song of all time & not one nomination? JOKE.
