Trey Songz Goes “Back Home” With New Album Featuring Summer Walker, Swae Lee & More

“Mr. Steal Yo Girl” returns with his eighth studio album, Back Home, featuring 22 new songs taking us on a rollercoaster of emotions truly embodying the nostalgic, sensual sounds flowing through all of his previous releases.

Titled after the album, “Back Home” was revealed back in April as the first music video for the album. The video shows all the joyous moments of being a father through the lens of various home footages and happiness spread across Trey Songz’s and his son’s faces. “If it isn’t love, why/ I keep coming back?/ I keep coming back, back home” he sings alongside Summer Walker who illustrates the agony of wanting to go back home to the only place filled with all the real love he’s ever known.

The album announcement released after this summer’s powerful protest song, “2020 Riots: How Many Times,” made headlines. Songz speaks about the injustices faced in the black community in the hands of the police while sharing a portion of the proceeds with Black Lives Matter and the Community Justice Exchange’s National Bail Fund Network. The single is also included towards the end of Back Home.

The R&B star teams up with Ty Dolla Sign (“On Call”), Davido (“Sleepless Nights”), and Swae Lee (“Rain”) to celebrate 15 years of sharing his passion for music with the world after his 2005 debut, Gotta Make It. Since then, he’s become one of the go-to artists in the industry who’s fighting injustices while dropping soulful R&B songs fit for any mood.

From the invitational introduction “Be My Guest” to the heartbreaking guitar-laced track “Two Ways,” Back Home closes out with “Noah Love,” one of the many heartfelt dedications to his son Noah. Just like “Rain” explains it, Trey Songz has been going through changes both in his interpersonal relationships and musical aspirations that have created a mature, entertaining, and influential album that will last for a lifetime.

“I wanna make the kind of R&B that inspired me to sing,” Trey Songz told Revolt.tv. “Music is the soundtrack that plays while we live our lives, and I wanna be there for my fans while they are living through this truly special time that we’ll never forget. I say I’m Back Home because the music feels that way. I hope you feel the same.”
